Work is being done in Engelhartszell in the Upper Austrian district of Schärding, not far from the German border.

Contractor Hemmelmair Frästechnik, from Linz, is making use of the W 100 CFi’s cutting-edge technology, in this case made from steel and carbide.

Wirtgen developed a special solution for the trenching method. A housing containing a narrow cutting wheel fitted with standard W6 picks is mounted behind the folded-in crawler track on the right. With a very large cutting diameter of 1,620mm, it can mill channels up to 600mm deep and 300mm wide. The rotary milling motion conveys the milled material upwards, where it is discharged via a baffle plate and chute.

The deep milling unit is controlled from the traditional control panel of the W 100 CFi.

Wirtgen’s Flexible Cutter System has milling drums with a variety of tool spacings or working widths. The drum can be replaced in 30-90 minutes depending on the machine – converting the cold milling machine from a standard to a fine milling machine, for instance.

Removing ruts from a country road, preparing a carriageway for a thin overlay using a fine milling drum or removing coatings on asphalt or concrete surfaces with a micro fine milling drum – all of these tasks can be handled with the same cold milling machine. The range of FCS milling drums is large, opening up a vast array of applications for cold milling machines.

Time is money, especially in Scandinavia where the short road construction season makes efficiency and flexibility a key factor for machines. That's particularly true on small job sites, where work has to be completed quickly but reliably day after day. As soon as the job is done, machines must be quickly loaded and ready to speed off to the next project. That’s exactly what the W 60 Ri small milling machine from Wirtgen delivers. Norwegian milling service provider Asfalt Remix - which uses exclusively W

Wirtgen is offering two new milling machine models that maximise power, productivity and versatility. The W 210 XP is the latest model in Wirtgen’s large cold milling machine series and is designed to combine high power with ease of transport. The machine is driven by an emissions compliant diesel delivering 571kW, allowing a high power to weight ratio. Versatility is claimed as the machine has a 2m wide milling drum as standard but can also be fitted with milling drums that are 1.8m or 2.2m wide, if requir

Roadtec’s innovative CIR Additive System can be used in the cold-in-place recycling of asphalt pavement. This is a useful technique for the repair and rehabilitation of asphalt-paved roads. The system is used to transfer, measure, and inject either emulsion or foamed asphalt to the cutter housing of the milling machine. The additive is then blended with the milled material and transferred for paving. Roadtec says that its cold-in-place recycling (CIR) equipment makes it possible to repair damage to a
