Uganda looks to upgrade cross-border links

The road linking Uganda with Sudan is being rebuilt with loans coming from the Japanese Government and the US-based World Bank. The cost of improving the road between Gulu and Atiak in Uganda and Nimule in Sudan is expected to be around US$245 million.

The road linking Uganda with Sudan is being rebuilt with loans coming from the Japanese Government and the US-based 2332 World Bank. The cost of improving the road between Gulu and Atiak in Uganda and Nimule in Sudan is expected to be around US$245 million. In addition, a Japanese Government loan is also being sought by Uganda's Finance Transport to fund repairs to the country's second Nile bridge. This repair project is of importance as it provides a key link to neighbouring nations including Burundi, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. A feasibility study is underway but the bridge repair project is expected to cost in the region of $117 million.
