The Private Finance Initiative (PFI) funding will allow the 1545 Isle of Wight Council to carry out vital improvements and maintenance to local roads over 25 years including road surface improvement and maintenance; footway and cycleway improvement; maintenance on bridges and other structures; upgrades to traffic signals, signs, street nameplates and road markings, and winter maintenance.

The Isle of Wight scheme consists of almost 803km of road with 767km of footway. The project also includes 12,000 street lights, a number of bridges and other structures, and highway trees.

Transport Minister Sadiq Khan said: “I look forward to seeing the improvements this vital funding will bring for the people of the Isle of Wight and visitors to the island.”
Work is scheduled to start in 2013.
