UK company 2297 Aggregate Industries is now using a Super 1302-2 model paver from Vögele for on the island of Guernsey. The company's Guernsey subsidiary 2298 Ronez is using the machine for maintaining the island's narrow lanes as well as other paving duties. Ronez has three machines on the island, a 1m unit for trench works, a 2m paver for smaller pavements and a 2.5m machine for roads. When the 2m machine came up for replacement, Ronez opted for the compact Super 1302-2 as it suits work on the island's narrow roads. The machine has an electric hydraulic screed that can be quickly adjusted to suit the varying paving widths needed, and the machine also offers a tight turning circle, allowing it to operate in confined spaces.

The firms have designed many of the latest machines to meet tough new emissions legislation, although versions will also be available for less regulated markets also. Ammann has up
  • High performance, high mobility of wheeled pavers

New generation wheeled pavers aimed at use in territories such as the UK, Italy, South Africa and Southern Germany are now coming to market. Pavers in these countries are often expected to be driven from one part of a site to another or for short distances, which is why the additional mobility of the wheeled machine is preferred in many instances over similarly-sized tracked models. This preference for wheeled units comes in spite of the greater stability offered by tracked machines. BOMAG, Caterpillar and

The latest technology continues to improve the quality of concrete paving while contractors are also benefiting from more adaptable equipment - Mike Woof reports For many concrete paving applications, versatility is required rather than a high production rate. Leading paver manufacturers such as GOMACO, Power Curbers, Terex and Wirtgen all offer high mobility machines that can be adjusted to cope with an array of tasks. For a contractor, the advantage of these smaller pavers is that they can be configured q
  • Surface quality a key trend in asphalt paving
    March 7, 2012
Improved surface quality and improved machine design are key trends in the asphalt paving sector, Mike Woof reports There is a big difference in asphalt paving techniques in North America and Europe. In North America, the need to construct long stretches of highway quickly resulted in wide pavers offering high throughput capacity, with compaction equipment then being used to achieve the required density of the various courses. In Europe's highway construction projects, distances tend to be shorter and contr
