Loans pave future for Philippine roads

An agreement worth US$493 million will seal the future or road maintenance projects and highway upgrades in the Philippines.

An agreement worth US$493 million will seal the future or road maintenance projects and highway upgrades in the Philippines. A 25 year loan is being agreed between the 2416 Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Philippine Government. The plans include repairs and maintenance to 600km of roads, rehabilitation of some 650km of roads and upgrades to a further 130km of roads.

    The Vietnamese Government is prioritising construction of the country’s North-South expressway project. Contractors are already being selected for the 11 sub-projects for the expressway, which is expected to come with a final pricetag of US$5.09 billion. The 2,100km route is being built in three separate phases and links 32 of Vietnams cities and provinces. The first 650km section will be complete by 2020. The other sections should be ready for traffic by 2025.

    Tanzania’s Dodoma City Outer Ring Roads project is to benefit from a loan provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB). The US$180 million loan from the AfDB will be used alongside the $36 million being provided by the Tanzanian Government for the work. In all the project will see 110km of road being constructed, including the ring road itself plus access roads and interchanges.
