240 Instarmac’s New Zealand partner, Horizon International, has supplied UltraScape’s Mortar Paving System to Auckland Transport as part of a local improvement project.

Franklin Road regularly surpasses 14,000 vehicles per day, including buses and heavy goods vehicles. This heavy and constant trafficking had caused the road surface to deteriorate.

Auckland Transport announced their plans to carry out significant improvement works to Franklin Road to provide “an urban streetscape that will accommodate all road users while retaining natural heritage”.

Instarmac says that its UltraScape’s Mortar Paving System has a durable and aesthetically pleasing finish making it ideal for such upgrades. Horizon International installed the system on a roundabout and traffic calming crossroads throughout Franklin Road.

UltraScape’s Mortar Paving System comprises Pro-Bed HS fine bedding mortar, Pro-Prime slurry primer and Flowpoint rapid set flowable grout.

Pro-Bed HS - pre-blended for ease of use - can be laid from 10-75mm, is shrinkage-compensated and can be opened to foot traffic in just 12 hours. This allows contractors to move on to the next part of the project quickly, says Instarmac.

Formulated to provide an exceptional bond between your paving element and Pro-Bed HS, Pro-Prime slurry primer eliminates costly failures caused by general wear and tear and heavy load bearing vehicles.

Instarmac says that its Flowpoint provides a durable finish that will not crack or stain – “a guarantee that has been put to the test in some of the world’s hottest and coldest climates”. Flowpoint also can receive foot traffic in one hour and vehicular traffic in four hours keeping disruption for pedestrians, cyclists and other road users to a minimum.

A new super-modifier is born from waste plastic in Italy and a soybean-based rejuvenator from the US spreads from its home market. By Kristina Smith The two bitumen technologies featured this month come from almost opposing sources. One emerges from the human-created plastic waste plaguing our planet, the other from a plant. However, both technologies have been created with the same aims: to increase the life of roads, saving cost and ultimately reducing the impact of road building on the planet. A coll

The Auckland Harbour Bridge is at the stage that it cannot cope with much more traffic, yet the population of the Auckland region continues to grow at a steady rate. Coupled with that, the bridge is a key link in the most important transport corridor in the country, State Highway One. Without it, the country would struggle to function. Not only home to New Zealand's largest city and one third of its population, Auckland's port is one of the country's largest. Some 140m north of the city is Marsden Point, th
