Segregation is a leading cause of premature failure in asphalt roads and the system uses infrared sensors to produce a thermal profile for the entire project. PAVE-IR is said to deliver real-time QC/QA data to the operator on a colour touch screen and stores the files for additional analysis in the office. The complete job is documented with GPS coordinates and a temperature scale.

Paving speed and paver stops are also recorded, allowing contractors to adjust their paving or trucking operations to maximise profits while providing a high-quality product free of segregation.

MOBA has developed a new temperature scanner system called the PAVE-IR, designed to help operators avoid laying incorrectly heated asphalt. From mixing plant to compaction, getting the temperature of asphalt right is critical. Cold asphalt can lead to road damage, which results in additional costs of up to 46% due shorter surface lifetimes. The new MOBA PAVE-IR aims for an optimum asphalt material mix and the best possible process flow says the manufacturer.

MOBA’s new PAVE-IR Scan system offers a new way of monitoring and documenting the temperature during asphalt paving for an entire project. As a result, contractors can optimise their work and verify the quality of the paving process. With the system’s intelligent temperature scanner, the system measures the asphalt temperature over the whole paving width of up to eight metres. The temperature profile is displayed in real-time on the display and the operator can react at any time if irregularities occur. All
