Long lasting repair performance is claimed for the new Ultracrete system
A NOVEL resin alternative has been used to repair roads in North Wales in the UK. The product, supplied by 2492 Ultracrete, has been used to provide a durable, high-strength ironwork reinstatement. The cement-based resin alternative material, Envirobed HA104, was tested by the 2312 North Wales Trunk Road Agency.

Resins have traditionally been the first choice for ironwork reinstatement, due to their high performance and rapid set times.

Until now it had always been difficult to match the same performance characteristics using an alternative material. However this new product is a revolutionary, next generation, environmentally friendly bedding mortar alternative to resin-based materials.

It is supplied as a two-component system which contains a blend of special cements, polymer-graded aggregates and recycled glass. The combined components provide a high performance mortar, which can be used for depths of 10-50mm in one pass. If necessary, greater depths can be achieved by using a layer-uponlayer method.

The trial in the Pen y Clip Tunnel on the A55 trunk road was carried out to assess its performance at a location featuring sustained high traffic volumes.

The product offers early tensile strengths that provide significant resistance to heavy traffic volumes.

High performance markings are among the safety products used to guide traffic safely, but they must be tested and checked. Patrick Smith reports. Road construction zones, zebra crossings, tunnels and areas with frequent fog are particular focal points with regard to road user safety. This is why manufacturers, authorities and contractors are always eager to use innovative road markings and special studs or, where necessary, lane control devices to assist both drivers and pedestrians in all conditions, parti

Stabilisers bring recycling improvements to roads in the UK and Armenia. The local road authorities near the UK city of Bath have saved nearly €250,500 on the cost of repairing a 400m long section of the B3110 Midford Road. This saving has been achieved by opting to recycle and strengthen in-situ the existing surface, instead of using conventional full depth pavement reconstruction.

A limited amount of aggregate and resources, including fuel, in the Riau province of Indonesia can challenge roadbuilders, but Indonesian contractor PT Harap Panjang overcame the obstacles on a recent project. The province rests in a tropical rainforest. The 2600mm of annual rainfall take a toll on the area’s roads, particularly those developed by oil company Chevron Pacific Indonesia. The remote roads were built to service Chevron operations, crucial to the economies of the city, region and country. The r

Proven polyester bridge deck surfacing technology is now being used more widely – Mike Woof writes. The benefits of using polymer concrete bridge deck overlays are well known and this technology is becoming widely used in the US. The system can improve protection for bridge surfaces and help extend the life of a bridge deck, as well as increasing skid resistance. In the last 25 years the use of these overlays has increased significantly in the US. These perform best when installed on bridge decks that are i
