7654 Heat Design Equipment (HDE) has introduced updated versions of two of its successful products, the HDE 750 2TMT asphalt maintenance trailer and the HDE JMH 500-PA asphalt joint heater. The asphalt maintenance trailer heats up and softens an area of asphalt, allowing it to be reworked and repaired. According to HDE, the infrared heaters can soften the top 60mm of asphalt to the original mixing temperatures in between five and 10 minutes. The units can be towed to site behind a truck and can then be used to reheat a deteriorated area of asphalt, with a contractor then adding new material and compacting the area in around 20 minutes. HDE’s longitudinal joint heater attaches to pavers to heat the cold joints before the next lane of asphalt is placed. Infrared heaters reheat the edge of the lane, allowing the contractor to then compact the joint and meet specifications.
