Paraguay road widening – financing settled

Financing is being secured for road widening work in Paraguay.

The US$290 million in bonds arranged by the Paraguayan Government will help pay for the widening or Route 2 and Route 7. A further $200 million is being provided by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB). The work is being handled by a consortium, Consorcio Rutas del Este, which comprises Ocho A and Sacyr. Construction started in August 2019 and should take three years to complete, while the joint venture partners have a deal that allows a 27-year concession package for Route 2 and Route 7.

    Funding worth US$500 million has still to be secured for road works in Paraguay. A consortium, Rutas del Este consortium, requires the financing to carry out the widening and upgrade work to Ruta 2 and Ruta 7. The work will be carried out under the PPP model, the first time this has been utilised in Paraguay. Rutas del Este comprises the contractors Sacyr and Ocho A. The consortium will operate the highway under a 30 year concession.
