New Paraguay route under construction

Construction is well underway on an important new route in Paraguay.

Construction work is well underway in Paraguay for the bi-oceanic corridor project. So far, surfacing work has been completed for 106km of the 277km route.

The project is costing US$445 million to carry out and is being managed by the country’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC). Improving the route will help boost transport across the country.

    Five consortia are vying for the contract to pave 255km of Paraguay’s bi-oceanic corridor project - the Loma Plata-Carmelo Peralta road paving works. The five consortia are INECS, EPI, ACI Proyectos Cialpa, Geocon-MCSA and Loma Plata.     Upgrade work for Paraguay’s Route 2 is being planned. This will improve transport for the country’s capital Asunción. The road runs eastwards from the city to connect with Route 7, which connects with the Brazilian border and also lies close to the border of Argentina’s north eastern tip.     Work to upgrade a section of Paraguay’s Route 8 between Caazapa and Yuty is finally close to completion. The work to improve the 73km section of the highway is some two years behind schedule.
