Versatility and performance are claimed for Kobelco’s new high reach excavator

Replacing the SK550DLC-10, the versatile SK550DLC-11 -11 features Kobelco’s proven NEXT system for high elevation and foundation. The system also makes it easier to transport the machine between projects.

The Kobelco-developed NEXT system attachments means that the machine can be adapted for multiple applications on the jobsite, including high elevation demolition projects as well as breaking up building foundations. The machine has four ultra-long attachment configurations and can work to a maximum height of 27.5m. The separate boom configuration is ideal for tackling lower floors of tall buildings and has a maximum working depth of 6.2m. The reinforced attachments can be changed onsite.

An important benefit of the NEXT system is the low storage height of the ultra-high attachment, just 2m in its stored position. Other factors include a hydraulic extension/retraction mechanism, which can reduce the width of the crawlers to 2.98m and the two-part counterweight that can be separated more easily than an integrated counterweight.

The machine benefits from the use of an electronically controlled engine, compliant with the Stage V emissions regulations and offering 10% more power than the previous model.

Kobelco has integrated safety features into the SK550DLC-11such as high-strength security glass and radial grid guards across the front and top windows while the cab can tilt up to 30° for operator comfort during high elevation demolition work. If the attachment comes too close to the cab, an alarm and warning on the screen alert the operator.

Innovation in earthmoving machines will help users reduce running costs while boosting productivity - Mike Woof writes. The earthmoving equipment market is hotly contested and is one in which manufacturers compete hard to introduce machines with working advantages over rival models. This has fuelled strong competition in terms of machine performance and quality over the years, resulting in the development of high-performance equipment that is also reliable and long lasting. This is particularly true of the
