Four new 2394 Volvo L45F wheeled loaders have been supplied to Cambridgeshire County Council's highways department and deployed at four strategic depots throughout the county.

The 8.5tonne wheeled loaders replace four outgoing 12-year-old loaders, and will primarily be handling and loading road gritters with rock salt during the winter months, rehandling used, crushed asphalt and other associated road laying materials as well as general yard duties.

The machines have been allocated to Cambridgeshire Highway's depots located at Huntingdon, March, Witchford and Whittlesford, eastern England.

The L45F, along with the bigger L50F, are two relatively new, mid-sized wheeled loaders joining Volvo Construction Equipment's F series line up and are the first of a new breed of loader to emerge from Volvo's design team.

Most notably, the design of the rear chassis with its sloping engine hood, thanks to the transverse mounted four-point eight Tier III engine and hydrostatic motor, provides excellent visibility all around the machine.

The Volvo Care Cab is at the forefront of delivering a high level of operator comfort, and all the machine's controls and functions come easily to hand.

With an operating weight of 8,650kg, the L45Fs supplied to Cambridgeshire Highways have been equipped with heavy duty 1.4m³ high tip buckets supplied by Ulrich Attachments to allow them to handle the material density of rock salt and to load highway gritters in an optimal time.
