Volvo CE’s uprated rigid haulers offer improved safety and reduce fuel consumption
7659 Volvo Construction Equipment has unveiled its new range of Volvo-branded rigid haulers. The new range consists of the 41tonne capacity R45D, 54tonne capacity R60D, 65tonne capacity R70D and the flagship 95tonne capacity R100E.

The top-of-the-range R100E is a completely new rigid hauler that combines proven components, new technologies and a new design. The firm says that it offers a cost-effective and productive solution for extraction market customers. The new four-model range is initially available in less regulated markets.

The machines are said to offer higher production while using less fuel and are suited for applications where operational costs and safe operations are critical. Uptime and productivity are centred on the range’s durable design that promotes high component protection and longer life cycles. The haulers are said to offer a competitive power-to-weight ratio, effective gearing and weight distribution that gives the tractive effort to allow the machines to traverse steep slopes in total control. With customer input key to the development of the new range of rigid haulers, the machines have undergone extensive field testing – with positive results.

The E-Series R100E is a completely new machine that delivers stability, a long service life, high profitability, durability and comfort. With its high capacity and hauling speeds, new V-shaped body, efficient hydraulics, intelligent monitoring systems and operator environment the R100E is quick and simple to operate and maintain.

Based on the existing and well-proven 8081 Terex Trucks TR-Series, development of the D-Series R45D, R60D and R70D Volvo rigid haulers follows an in-depth engineering review, ensuring that the machines meet the standards expected from Volvo products in their target markets and segments. Improvements include greater visibility and upgraded safety systems.

Volvo Construction Equipment’s new 55-tonne capacity Volvo A60H meets growing customer demand for articulated haulers with larger capacities. The articulated hauler concept was originally launched by Volvo in 1966 and celebrates its 50th birthday this year. The Volvo A60H’s higher payload – a 40% increase on Volvo’s A40 –lowers the cost-per-tonne for hauliers. It also offers an alternative to rigid dump trucks and construction trucks operating on soft, uneven or steep roads, allowing a similar amount

The improvements to articulated dump trucks (ADTs) have been substantial in recent years. Comparing a present day machine with one from 20 or even just 10 years ago shows how far design has come. Major improvements have been made in visibility, operator comfort levels, rough terrain performance, driveline efficiency and productivity, to name but a few key areas. All of the latest generation ADTs available on the world market now come with Tier 3/Stage IIIA compliant diesels that produce far lower noise and
