Versatility is claimed for Caterpillar‘s latest crawler loaders

The new 953 tracked loader is up to 10% more fuel efficient, while delivering more productivity and cab and controllability improvements. The 953 meets Tier 4 Final/Stage V emission requirements and is powered by a Cat C7.1 diesel delivering 119kW. An auto mode that adapts engine speed to load and eco mode help ensure low fuel consumption, while the power mode can keep engine speed high for a feel of readily available power at all times.

The 16tonne class machine replaces the 953K and is said to be highly agile, allowing it to operate in tight spaces. Improvements include an updated cab with suspension seat and adjustable armrests/controls, a touchscreen dash display that is easy to use and a standard high definition rearview camera. A slope indicate tool shows cross slope on the display for ease of operation. The firm claims that the new controls deliver smoother implement and steering response, improved steering performance and more controllability.

An optional Performance Series bucket boosts productivity up to 20%, while an optional Fusion Quick Coupler allows fast attachment changes. A variety of buckets, forks and other tools can be shared among track loaders, wheeled loaders and other Fusion compatible machines. Purpose-built models are available, such as the low ground pressure (LGP) variant. Bucket capacity for the standard model is 1.8m3, while bucket capacity for the performance series version is 2.1m3.

Cat LINK telematics technology helps gather data, while the Product Link package collects data automatically and accurately. Customers can access information using the VisionLink system, which is available with cellular or satellite reporting or both.

The Cat App helps manage assets from a smartphone, while the Remote Troubleshoot tool allows Cat dealers to perform diagnostic testing remotely. Remote Flash updates onboard software without a technician being present, potentially reducing update time by as much as 50%.

Application Profile and Operator ID help save time by saving preferred machine settings. Machine Security is ensured as a Passcode provides an optional additional level of security by requiring an operator to enter an ID before the machine will start.
