The winner in the SaMoTer Awards category for Software Applications was Doosan for its Xitecloud system.

It can estimate the volume of material to be moved in relation to specific soil features, for example, rock or earth. Doosan says that Xitecloud provides essential support for operational planning and efficient task management, including machinery fleets and timing.

Products being shown for the first time at Samoter include Doosan’s new Stage V compliant 30-40tonne crawler excavators, such as the DX350-7.

The 36 tonne machine’s Stage V engine exceeds regulations without exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), that boosts the quantity of air available during combustion, increasing the temperature of the process and greatly reducing the amount of particulates produced. This is combined with super-efficient DOC/DPF+SCR after-treatment technology to ensure minimal emissions. Maintenance of the diesel particulate filter (DPF) has been greatly reduced, with none required until 8,000 hours of operation.

Complementing these products, Doosan is showing new technologies under the company’s ‘Powered by Innovation’ umbrella, expanding its Smart Solutions portfolio to give visitors a preview of what will be coming in the future, including Concept-X, a new comprehensive control solution to operate equipment without human intervention. Doosan will show new fuel cell drones for monitoring machine performance on large construction sites as well as in mining and quarrying operations.

The DL420CVT-5 wheel loader is the first model in the Doosan wheel loader range to be equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission. CVT is composed of a hydraulic motor with a hydraulic pump which provides a smooth and continuous speed variation. A 15% fuel saving can be achieved, according to Doosan.

The latest introduction from Doosan is the new DL580-5 top-of-the-range wheel loader. With a bucket capacity of 5.4m³, the DL580-5 has a similar look to the existing DL550-5 model, but features robust structural components and an advanced sophisticated double circuit axle cooling system to provide an ideal solution for applications such as block lifting and other heavier material-handling needs in industrial, construction, recycling, mining and quarrying applications.

Among developments in the company’s Smart Solutions portfolio are fuel-cell powered drones from Doosan Mobility Innovation. These monitor and document materials, equipment and transit routes and can fly up to two hours on one charge. Smart Solutions is also offering new machine guidance systems from Leica, Trimble and Xsite for its wheeled and crawler excavators from 14-30 tonnes. Factory-installed options are available for several tiltrotator systems on Doosan excavators.

Engines and drivelines technologies have move forward, as could be seen at Conexpo 2014 - Geoff Ascroft reports Solutions for Tier 4 Final emissions regulations dominated Conexpo 2014, with many firms showing off their options of DOC, DPF and SCR after-treatments. Deutz, while staying with an SCR-only solution, took a more unusual approach on its high horsepower V6 12litre and V8 16litre engines. Both get a dual SCR after treatment system to meet Tier 4 Final emission standards. Using a dual SCR system,
