Kobelco’s new SK520LC-11 excavator offers increased performance

Increased performance is claimed for Kobelco’s SK520LC-11E excavator, which is now being offered in two variants.

The standard model is the SK520LC-11E model, however there is also the new SK520LC-11E Mass Excavation variant, for specific application needs. Both models weigh from 52.9-57.2tonnes, depending on specification and have power from a six-cylinder Isuzu diesel rated at 348kW that meets Tier 4 Final/Stage V emissions requirements.

Standard bucket capacities for the conventional version are from 1.4-3.4m3, while it is offered with a short 3m arm, a standard 3.45m arm and a long 4.04m arm. Meanwhile the mass excavation variant is offered with the 3.4m bucket as standard and a 2.6m arm, allowing it to be used for high production operations.

Upgrades to Kobelco Construction Machinery’s Blade Runner, the ED160BR-5, have focussed on revised blade construction and improved track motors. The ED160BR-5 is based on the firm’s short-radius 14tonner, the SK140SRLC. It uses a six-way PAT blade (power, angle, tilt) and gives the 16tonne Blade Runner the pushing performance of a nine-tonne class dozer. The blade’s 3.26m working width is supplied with folding wings, reducing the overall width of the machine to 2.46m for transport. Power for the ED160BR-5

Hamm’s new DV+ 70i and DV+ 90i tandem rollers are said to be highly productive machines offering good visibility and easy operation. These 7tonne and 9tonne class asphalt compactors are highly versatile and have been designed so that they can be operated in either direction. To ensure a range of options for the customer, the machines are being offered in three variants: as a double vibratory roller (VV), an oscillatory roller (VO = a vibratory and oscillatory drum) and as a combination roller (VT).

US and European asphalt paving needs are different, but some firms are bridging that gap, reports Mike Woof. With a clear differentiation between the US and European asphalt paving markets, manufacturers from the latter are now developing machines aimed at the former. The US and European markets for paving machines have developed along very different lines. North American pavers are designed for high throughputs and high paving rates, having been designed to meet a need to build roads over long distances wi
