Liebherr's new LB Series rotary drilling rigs are designed for operations using Kelly equipment, continuous flight augers and double rotary heads. 718 Liebherr's new LB Series rotary drilling rigs are designed for operations using Kelly equipment, continuous flight augers and double rotary heads. These can be used in an array of ground stabilisation applications for construction projects and complement the firm's proven LRB range of combined piling and drilling machines. There are four models in the new LB range, with operating weights from 68.4-113.5tonnes and these are capable of drilling diameters from 1.2-2.5m and to depths from 35-70m using Kelly equipment. The powerful LB28 offers a maximum torque of 280 kNm and features a rope descent system with a 40tonne retraction force. The machines are said to be stable in operation and can be transported in a single unit. Where transport restrictions apply, the leader features a quick-assembly system to minimise set-up time on-site.

    Italian foundation specialist Soilmec has added two rigs to its piling range. The SF-65 replaces the previous SF-70 and answers customer requests for added versatility. The continuous flight auger (CFA) rig allows operators to drill all around the machine without having to relocate the tracks to bore at the corners as before. Powered by a 205kW diesel engine, the SF-65 can handle 1,000mm diameters to a depth of 27m.
