The new Link-Belt 235 X3 Spin Ace Minimum Swing Radius Excavator is now available in North America in LC and bulldozer models.

Replacing what 5993 LBX Company describes as the popular 225 Spin Ace minimum swing radius excavator, new features on the 235 X3 include an Interim Tier 4a 2724 Isuzu engine with claimed 17.5% better fuel efficiency and a ROPS-certified cab with new interior and 7-inch colour monitor. The new excavator is also said to have 15% more lift capacity than its predecessor, 7% faster cycle times and improved serviceability. The 235 X3 can be equipped with an optional auxiliary hydraulic system which allows the operator to change both pressure and flow settings from inside the cab. LBX said the system represents a useful timesaver when working with a multitude of hydraulic tools.

Other notable new cab features include a fuel consumption gauge on the monitor to assist in determining operating characteristics; newly designed joysticks with single-swipe wiper function; improved air-flow of Climate Control A/C and heat; and a repositioned fuse box for easy access. With 20 programmable languages, display messages can be read by virtually anyone. All Link-Belt excavators are also said to be equipped with a standard control pattern changer.

To maximize uptime, the 235 X3 features an on-board diagnostic system with flashing diagnostic codes on the monitor to quickly alert the operator to potential trouble. New, programmable, service interval reminders for 13 different service items can be tracked through the monitor. This is said by LBX to make planning maintenance easier. A new easy access cab filter on the left hand side of the cab provides ground level access while helping maintain cab pressure to keep the interior clean.

Both machines are powered by Doosan’s DL06K ‘common rail’ six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, said to meet Stage IIIB engine emission regulations through the use of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) after-treatment technologies. The engine has a displacement of 5,890cm³ and is said to deliver 15% more power [82 kW @ 1850RPM] than previous Stage IIIA models. The engine also delivers 11% more torque (49.5kgf.m) in the DX160LC-3 model. Doosan said that factory tests had

Hyundai’s new HX235 LCR short tail crawler excavator, a stage IV generation machine, can load trucks up to 5% faster and levels up to 4% faster than the 9A-Series. To achieve efficient grading, the HX series can apply boom floating control using arm-in and arm-out operation only, allowing stable operation even in high-load work. The new HX235 LCR shares many innovative features with the South Korean manufacturer’s other new excavators – the HX145 short tail crawler excavator and the company’s first w

Excavators and wheeled loaders benefit from new engine technology - Mike Woof reports. Competition is tough in the market for crawler excavators and wheeled loaders. These production machines account for a significant percentage of the entire construction equipment market worldwide and the segment also has the widest array of competing manufacturers. In the past, European, Japanese and US manufacturers dominated this sector but in the last 20 years South Korean companies have built significant market shares
