Atlas Copco's new COPROD drilling system offers low-noise, straight hole drilling
161 Atlas Copco says that the third generation of its COPROD drilling system offers even better performance than before. The company offers this with two surface drilling rig platforms and five different drillstrings. ROCF9CR is the smaller of the two rigs and can use CR76 or CR89 drillstrings for blastholes ranging from 90-127mm in diameter. The ROCL740CR is a second generation COPROD drilling rig and can be equipped with CR89, CR102, CR127 or CR140 units to drill holes from 105-180mm in diameter.

A patented plastic stabiliser further improves hole straightness and helps reduce noise emissions. The welded centre guides in the drill tubes have been replaced with a full length inner tube and this patented plastic stabiliser acts as an inner lining, reducing vibrations and noise levels. Field tests have shown that this reduction in noise also allows COPROD rigs to operate without causing unnecessary noise pollution.
