Grader update from Komatsu

Komatsu is now offering an updated version of its GD675 grader. The new generation GD675-6 benefits from an improved drivetrain with a dual mode transmission that is said to help to cut fuel consumption by up to 15%. In addition, the GD675-6 has the longest wheel base in its class and is said to offer a fine grading performance. 2300 Komatsu is now offering an updated version of its GD675 grader. The new generation GD675-6 benefits from an improved drivetrain with a dual mode transmission that is said to help to cut fuel consumption by up to 15%. In addition, the GD675-6 has the longest wheel base in its class and is said to offer a fine grading performance.

Power comes from a high-performance Komatsu diesel that delivers 163kW and is equipped with selective catalyst reduction (SCR) and AdBlue diesel exhaust fuel technology. This package reduces NOx emissions and allows the diesel to meet the Stage IV engine emission requirements. Komatsu Stage IV engines use an advanced electronic control system to manage airflow rate and fuel injection and combustion parameters. Komatsu also uses a Komatsu variable geometry turbocharger (KVGT) and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve. The SCR system, turbocharger and electronics also help ensure that this diesel also burns less fuel and costs less to operate.

The novel drive system combines the high ground speeds of a direct-drive transmission with the control, high tractive effort and anti-stall features of a torque converter transmission. Losses of hydraulic efficiency are minimised by a new variable capacity hydraulic piston pump and the system is said to ensure that the engine operates at high efficiency. New axles with low friction bushings and new intelligent electronic engine control assist the torque converter to provide high power and allow smooth operation. The machine is said to be easy to operate and is able deliver high output as it features precise excavator style hydraulics and can be used with the latest grade control systems.

As with other new units from Komatsu, the machine also benefits from the Komatsu CARE maintenance programme and KOMTRAX system.

The forthcoming Tier 4 emissions legislation represents a great leap forward in technology, Mike Woof reports A high-profile focus on sustainability and reduced environmental impact is sweeping the construction sector in the European Union (EU) and the US. The EU and the US will implement regulations for the lowest emission off-road machines in history, with Canada and Japan expected to release similar regulatory programmes this year. The legislation being introduced will transform the construction indu
