The new Stage IIIB compliant DX420LC-3 large crawler excavator has been unveiled by 695 Doosan Construction Equipment.

Compared to the model it replaces, the new excavator is said to offer several improvements, including a substantial boost in power, resulting in significant increases in performance specifications such as drawbar pull, arm and bucket digging forces and lifting capacities to provide a much higher overall productivity.

The DX420LC-3 excavator is designed to handle a broad range of applications such as heavy earthmoving, road building, civil engineering, demolition, quarrying and large-scale material handling.

The model’s Isuzu AL-6UZ1X ‘common rail’ six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine is said to deliver 19% more power {270kW} at 2,000rpm, along with a claimed 6% increase in engine torque. A new travel device in the DX420LC-3 excavator is said to contribute to an increase in drawbar pull by 10%, a 5% increase in swing torque, and a 10% increase in the travel speed.

The DX420LC-3 is also said to have a 6% larger ROPS and OPG certified cab. Direct control through the joysticks, which have new proportional thumb wheel switches and integrated buttons, is said to provide precise, proportional control of attachments.

Compared to the previous model, the operating weight of the DX420LC-3 excavator has been increased by a tonne to 41.9tonnes and the counterweight has been increased by .200tonnes to 8.2tonnes. The heavy-duty undercarriage on the DX420LC-3 excavator features reinforced track links, track springs, sprockets and bushings. As a result, the service life of the machine is said to have been extended significantly.

Both machines are powered by Doosan’s DL06K ‘common rail’ six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, said to meet Stage IIIB engine emission regulations through the use of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) after-treatment technologies. The engine has a displacement of 5,890cm³ and is said to deliver 15% more power [82 kW @ 1850RPM] than previous Stage IIIA models. The engine also delivers 11% more torque (49.5kgf.m) in the DX160LC-3 model. Doosan said that factory tests had
