Caterpillar offering improved long reach excavators

Caterpillar has developed new long reach excavators for applications needing deep digging or excavating at extended distances. The machines can be used for working in sand and gravel pits, shaping long slopes, and cleaning settling ponds. 178 Caterpillar has developed new long reach excavators for applications needing deep digging or excavating at extended distances. The machines can be used for working in sand and gravel pits, shaping long slopes, and cleaning settling ponds. The new models can be used for digging and lifting applications as they features large buckets and heavy-duty high/wide undercarriages that provide added stability over the side. These special-application 340F and 352F machines are designed by Caterpillar engineers.

The 340F Long Reach features a Cat C9.3 ACERT engine and the 352F Long Reach Excavator features a C13 ACERT engine, both meeting Tier 4 Final/Stage IV emissions standards. The excavators also incorporate a special heavy-duty upper frame, swing bearing and carbody. These heavy-duty members combine with added counterweight to provide maximum-reach dimensions at ground level of 18,080mm for the 340F and 19,640mm for the 352F. Maximum digging depths are 13.05m and 13.04m, respectively.

Implement hydraulic systems for the 340F Long Reach and 352F Long Reach Excavators provide ample hydraulic flow and at the necessary high pressures to cope with the additional demands placed on these machines.  The hydraulics are said to deliver power and maximum control for a range of excavating buckets and hydraulic work tools.

Other features include high comfort cabs with good all-round visibility and grouped service points that make the machines easy to maintain and service. The machines also are equipped with Caterpillar’s LINK technologies, such as the Product Link system, which allow fleet owners to track critical items such as machine location, hours, fuel usage, diagnostic codes, and idle time via the online VisionLink interface.

Demolition is a highly specialised business, as the machinery required to carry out the work on high-rise demolition contracts can be very site specific. Today's high reach demolition rig is no longer simply a tracked excavator with a long boom, indeed some machines cannot be used as excavators at all. Likewise a machine that is dedicated to carrying a 2.5 or 3tonne shear or hammer will need to be built to take the stresses and strains of demolition life.
