Caterpillar’s Next Generation 323 excavator is one of a series of machines designed for use by customers in emergent territories

178 Caterpillar has expanded its product range for the Chinese and emergent markets, with its own branded machines and also for its Chinese subsidiary, Shandong Engineering Machinery (SEM).

Caterpillar has introduced three wheeled loaders for Chinese and emergent territory customers, with the 950 GC, 980L, and 982M models. Also new are the Next Generation 320 and 323 excavators, which benefit from a Smart Mode that automatically matches engine and hydraulic power to specific digging conditions, and an advanced hydraulic system designed to balance power and efficiency with precise control. A standard grade-control system, Cat GRADE with 2D, includes both indicate-only and laser capability, and an available suite of Cat Connect Technologies is designed to increase operator efficiency, reduce operator fatigue, and reduce operating costs. Also wearing the Caterpillar badge for emergent territories is the new

140 GC grader. The grader features a new, ergonomically designed cab with an adjustable control console, and it offers a 10% reduction in fuel consumption when the new ECO Mode is used.

Meanwhile, the SEM line has also been widened and now includes new wheeled loader, grader and soil compactor models for certain emergent territories. The new SEM 680D wheeled loader features transmission with electronic clutch proportional control valve with single clutch speed shift strategy to provide higher shift quality. The upgraded 822D dozer has now been upgraded and features power from a 162kW diesel and an electronically controlled hydrostatic drive. In addition, the firm has the new MG918 grader, which offers a loading sensing hydraulic system, as well as easy operation and low fuel consumption. And also new is the SCOM522 soil compactor, which features a pod-style eccentric design that is said to extend system life by 50% and reduce maintenance costs.

Komatsu Europe has premiered its new next-generation WA475-11 and WA485-11 wheeled loaders, which the manufacturer says represent a leap forward in performance and efficiency.

At the heart of new Dash 11 generation wheeled loaders is a newly developed Komatsu diesel engine which is characterised by extremely high torque in the low-speed range. This new engine is combined with a Komatsu-designed hydro-mechanical-transmission (HMT), resulting in excellent performance, power reserves, fuel efficiency and ease of operation for all transport and loading tasks.

Major manufacturers continue to develop new soil compactor models - Mike Woof reports. Innovations in machine design are being seen in the soil compaction sector from a number of major firms. As in other equipment sectors, new engine emissions legislation has played a huge role in driving the latest design changes. Europe, the US and Japan are rolling in the new Tier 4 Final/Stage IV legislation on noise and exhaust emissions which will be phased in across power output classes from the start of January 2014

Increased performance and more durable construction are key features of new generation excavators – Mike Woof writes. All the major equipment manufacturers are introducing new hydraulic excavators to meet market demand. These machines are offering increased output at the same time as producing lower emission levels and burning less fuel than before. From Caterpillar for instance comes its new 330F, which features a maximum operating weight of 29.75tonnes and is powered by a 178kW Cat C7.1 ACERT diesel that
