Compact equipment specialist 1651 Wacker Neuson is starting work on a new factory at Hörsching in Austria. Work is now underway on the plant as the foundations have already been laid. According to the current schedule, the first compact equipment should be rolling off the production line as early as the beginning of May 2012.

The new plant is of key importance to the firm, particularly as it recently struck a deal with 178 Caterpillar for the manufacture of excavators weighing up to 3 tonnes. The deal has meant that Wacker Neuson's at Leonding is now operating close to its capacity limit. The new plant is being built on a 160,000m2 plot of land, giving Wacker Neuson huge scope to expand production capacity in the future. It will also bring new jobs to the region. Wacker Neuson is investing around €65 million, including purchasing and developing the site, in what it claims will be one of the largest, most modern plants for compact equipment in the world. The 16ha site in Hörsching is located next to the airport and will be home to a state-of-the-art production hall, with testing grounds and an administrative building. These buildings will stretch across approximately 50,000m2. Optimised production processes and the latest technologies, such as a paint line with powder coating und a sand-blasting facility, will also be installed at the new factory.
