Two new Russian bridges being planned

Two major new bridge projects are being planned in Russia. One bridge will span the Volga River, the other will span the Yenisei River in Siberia.

Design work for the third bridge spanning the River Volga near to Saratov will commence in 2020. The plans call for this new road bridge to be constructed close to the existing railway bridge.

Meanwhile in Siberia’s Krasnoyarsk Region, a bridge measuring over 2km is being planned. This project is expected to cost US$138 million and also involves building a new roundabout to connect the bridge road with existing roads.

  • Controversial Russian bridge opens

    The first stage of a controversial Russian bridge project is now complete, with the link having been opened to use by cars and buses. The Kerch Strait bridge spans the Black Sea, connecting Russia’s Taman Peninsula in Krasnodar with Crimea, the latter having been controversially annexed by Russia from Ukraine in 2014. The official opening of the 19km-long bridge was carried out by Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, who drove across the link in a Russian-manufactured Kamaz truck to reach the city of Kerch.

    The cost of building the Padma Bridge in Bangladesh will be nearly three times the US$2.61 billion estimated in 2011. Also on the rise is the cost of flood prevention work in the form of levee construction – called river training in Bangladesh.     Stroitelnoe Upravlenie-820 (SU-820) has won a tender for reconstructing 11km of the M-5 Ural federal highway in Russia. SU-820 estimated the work cost at US$103.98million (RUB 3.30bn), which was 18% less that the starting price. The reconstruction is due to be completed by late October 2014. Five other companies including the Chelyabinsk-based (Ural) Uralmotostroy, the Omsk-based (Siberia) Mostovik, and the Saratov-based (Volga) Volgomost, took part in the tender.
