Shantui now 'world's largest dozer producer'

Multi-national construction equipment manufacturer Shantui says it is now the world's largest maker of bulldozers, all under its own brand name.

Multi-national construction equipment manufacturer 1171 Shantui says it is now the world’s largest maker of bulldozers, all under its own brand name.

The Chinese manufacturer, headquartered in Jining, Shandong province in the east of the country, says that that its “aggressive expansion and strong demand internationally have led to its leading position.”

In 2010, Shantui produced two out of every five crawler-type dozers in the world, more than 10,000 units, while global production for the same year was 24,600. 2444 Off-Highway Research, a leading independent construction equipment industry consultancy, compiled the statistics.

“We are pleased to receive independent verification of our success. It is gratifying to see our investments pay off so handsomely, especially in the face of established competitors,” said Richard Li, vice president for international.

In 2010, Shantui, which produces most of the components that go into its dozers and also supplies parts to many of its competitors, surpassed US$2billion in revenue, and in 2011 it started producing “the first brand-name dozer made by a Chinese manufacturer to pass European and American emissions and safety standards.”v
