Construction machinery sales in Italy have dropped for the first nine months of 2020 compared with the same period in 2019. The data has been compiled by the Italian construction machinery manufacturing association, UNACEA, which has received sales information from its members.

During the first nine months of 2020 there were 10,048 construction machines sold in the Italian market, a fall of 7% compared to the same period of 2019. The earthmoving machines sold in the first nine months of 2020 reached 9,631 units, a drop of 8% from the same period in 2019. Meanwhile, there were 417 road machines sold in this period, an increase of 2% compared with the first nine months of 2019.

On a positive note however, there has been a recovery for machinery sales in the third quarter of 2020. Between July and September 2020, there were 4,133 construction machines sold in Italy, an increase of 20% compared to the third quarter of 2019.

“The third quarter recovers in some way the loss of sales experienced during the lockdown in spring,” said Mirco Risi, Unacea president. “However, uncertainty remains high.” He added that there is a need for investment in infrastructure in Italy to maintain and improve many capital assets that have been neglected for too long.
