Construction of Tunisia's new north-south highway will start shortly. The 152km highway will link Sfax and Gabès and the construction schedule calls for the building of underpasses, flyovers, interchanges, tollgates and 10 bridges. This new link is intended to help develop trade and boost the economy and is due for completion in early 2013. The work will be carried out by a number of Tunisian and foreign contractors. Once complete, the highway will also provide a better connection with the country's neighbours and will help improve transport across North Africa. European expertise is helping with the project.
