Moscow tunnel for traffic solution

A tunnel currently under construction should help deliver a solution to the endemic traffic congestion problems suffered in Russian capital Moscow.

A tunnel currently under construction should help deliver a solution to the endemic traffic congestion problems suffered in Russian capital Moscow. The authorities in Moscow intend to extend the Alabyano-Baltyisky Tunnel along Bolshaya Akademicheskaya Street. This would require building an additional underpass under a railway. Should the plan go ahead, the tunnel would measure 29km in length. The total project is estimated to cost US$2.3 billion. The city plans to complete major work by December 2011.

The North-East Expressway will provide a connection between the existing Dmitrovskoe and Yaroslavskoe Highways. The new route will measure 13km long and design work should be complete by the end of 2018, with construction intended to be finished by 2020.
