The Bangladesh Government has announced the winner of the bidding process for its huge elevated highway project in Dhaka. This US$1.32 billion project will be built by 1042 Italian-Thai Development (ITD), a Thailand-based contractor, is to build the four-lane expressway. The new link will be 26km long. The project will receive financial aid from the 2332 World Bank (WB) and the 943 Asian Development Bank (ADB) and will be 30% owned by the 1043 Bangladeshi Government.

The new link will reduce congestion and travel times across Dhaka, as well as boosting safety for vehicle users. Bangladesh is also intending to build an elevated expressway stretching 10km in the northern part of the country, and a highway with links to neighbouring Bhutan, Southwest China, Eastern India, Myanmar, Thailand and Nepal.
