A new bridge in Ecuador will improve transport connections in the country. The opening of this new structure is of note as it is the longest bridge in Ecuador. The Bahia de Caraquez-San Vicente road bridge cost some US$102 million to construct.
A US construction sector group wants warning signs to be posted on bridges designated “structurally deficient" and in need of repair by state engineers.
More than 61,000 structurally deficient bridges remain in need of significant repair, according to the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA), which analysed the US Department of Transport’s National Bridge Inventory database.

Chile’s Ministry of Public Works has launched the bidding process for construction of a 150km dual-carriageway in the region of Antofagasta.
The new road will take in the communities of Calama and Sierra Gorda and include five flyovers and three rail overpasses, in addition to improvement works on the roundabout to access Calama.
Technical offers are expected by July followed by financial analysis reports by August, according to the ministry. The estimated cost is around US$290 million.
