A new bridge in Ecuador will improve transport connections in the country. The opening of this new structure is of note as it is the longest bridge in Ecuador. The Bahia de Caraquez-San Vicente road bridge cost some US$102 million to construct.
A new bridge in Vietnam will be built by Japanese firm Sumitomo Mitsui Construction in a joint venture partnership with two local contractors. The 5.4km bridge will be the longest in Vietnam and the project is costing some US$347 million, with the Japanese company holding a 67% stake in the deal. Work has started on the long awaited San Jose-Caldera Highway in Costa Rica, following numerous delays and setbacks. The new 77.5km highway will be used daily by more than 81,000 vehicles, reducing the travel time between the Central Valley and the Central Pacific Coast by at least 30 minutes.
Colombia is currently working on major highway projects that will improve transport infrastructure in the country and form part of its 4G programme. The US$616.5 million Rumichaca-Pasto dual carriageway in Narino department will improve Colombia’s transport connections with neighbouring Ecuador, cutting journey times from two hours at present to just one hour.
