Nissen's NiNa Traffic and NiNa Guard, a combination of sophisticated sensor and a traffic counter
One of the latest innovations from road safety equipment company 3396 Nissen is NiNa (Nissen Navigation) Traffic and NiNa Guard, a combination of sophisticated sensor and a traffic counter which collects data on traffic density and speed.

Data collected by the system can then be used to warn oncoming motorists by displaying the traffic information and warning on variable message signs.

The system can be powered either by mains or solar panel and is mounted on the roadside, while the Nissen controller and sensor is housed in a weatherproof cabinet, and continuously monitors traffic flow. If the average speed of vehicles drops below a preset threshhold, the NiNa Guard detects this as a potential traffic jam, and using NiNa, which is based on GPRS, sends the data either to a control centre to warn motorists of a potential traffic jam, or it can be linked to the VMS system so a pre-determined signs can be displayed.

Recent trials in Germany on various locations are said to prove that the system is highly reliable and offers accurate information.

Innovation in earthmoving machines will help users reduce running costs while boosting productivity - Mike Woof writes. The earthmoving equipment market is hotly contested and is one in which manufacturers compete hard to introduce machines with working advantages over rival models. This has fuelled strong competition in terms of machine performance and quality over the years, resulting in the development of high-performance equipment that is also reliable and long lasting. This is particularly true of the
