Road safety improvements have effectively stalled in the US in 2022 at around 31,800 deaths from road crashes for the year. Yet even this poor performance can be seen as a gain considering the increases in road casualties in the US since 2019. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data reveals that road deaths fell by 0.2% for the first nine months of 2022.

Of concern is that speeding remains a serious issue. And for the first six months of 2022, US road deaths of pedestrians increased by 2% to 3,340 while fatalities for cyclists grew 8% to 448.
