The 2364 US Department of Transportation (USDoT) has announced the availability of version 7.0 of the National Intelligent Transportation Systems (3278 ITS) Architecture that provides a common framework for planning, defining, and integrating ITS deployments. It has been developed and evolved via stakeholder input and reflects the contributions of a broad cross-section of the ITS community and provides a definitive reference for ITS deployment planning.

The National ITS Architecture defines the functions that are required for ITS; the physical subsystems where these functions reside; and the information exchanges that connect these functions and physical subsystems together into an integrated system.
