Uprades for Glaskar and Damsgård tunnels

Norway’s Statens vegvesen will improve safety and communication systems in the Glaskar and Damsgård tunnels in Bergen.

Norway’s public roads administration Statens vegvesen has awarded contracts to upgrade safety facilities in the E39 Glaskartunnelen and RV 555 Damsgårdtunnelen in Bergen.

All technical equipment inside and outside the tunnels will be replaced, ventilation systems, lighting, drainage, camera surveillance, fire extinguishing systems and telephones.

The contract for the four-lane twin-tube Glaskartunnelen tunnel has been awarded to Norwegian company Fyllingen Maskin in collaboration with Strand and Magnus Thunestvedt, at a value of €9.14 million. The 597m-long southbound tube was opened in 1990 and the northbound tube, at 585m, was opened in 1994.

Meanwhile, a €37.43 million contract for the 2.3km Damsgårdtunnelen – also four lanes and twin-tube - has been awarded to OneCO Infra. The eastbound tube was opened in 1992 with the other tube opening a year later.
