UAE sees road safety gain

The UAE is seeing a road safety gain.

A 10% drop in road deaths has been identified in the UAE for 2022 compared with 2021. There were 343 fatalities from road crashes in the UAE during 2022 according to the data from the UAE's Ministry of Interior (MoI).

However, there was an increase in the number of serious road crashes which grew 13% to 3.945 compared with 2021. Young drivers aged under 30 represented 41% of those killed and 53% of those injured. 

Key factors involved in crashes in the UAE included distracted driving, driving too close to the vehicle in front, DUI, careless driving and sudden swerves.

  • Japan’s safer roads see casualties fall

    Japan has seen its road safety levels improve significantly in 2017, compared with the previous year. Data compiled by Japan’s National Police Agency shows that there were 3,694 traffic fatalities in the country in 2017, a drop of 210 from the previous year.     Germany saw a slight gain in road safety in 2017 compared with 2016. Official data from the government body Destatis showed that there were 3,180 road-related fatalities in Germany in 2017. This was 0.8% less than for 2016. Meanwhile the number of injuries from road crashes also dropped to 390,312, a reduction of 1.6%.
