Themed ‘Improving Road Safety – Solutions that Work’, the recent 4753 TISPOL (European Traffic Police Network) Conference 2013 in Manchester refocused efforts to improve road safety across Europe, while outlining future initiatives to drive down road accident levels even further.

Among a host of high calibre speakers during the October 1-2 event, which attracted 220 delegates from 34 countries, were TISPOL president Koen Ricour, Szabolcs Schmidt, head of the 2465 European Commission’s road safety unit, and Bernd Heller, deputy head of road policing for North Rhine Westphalia, Germany, who gave a presentation titled ‘Development of the 24-Hour Speed Enforcement Campaign’.

In a video message to conference delegates, Brian Simpson, the chair of the European Parliament Committee for Transport and Tourism, said how better cross-Europe cooperation between roads policing officers and thorough use of existing roads policing are the best way to ensure good road safety across Europe.

The Conference also included an exhibition of leading road safety solutions provided by internationally renowned companies including 342 Topcon, 1134 Siemens and 3957 Vysionics.
