Work is underway on the new north Tarrant Express project in Texas
Work is now well underway on the new North Tarrant Express project in Texas. Clearance operations are being carried out to make way for the North Tarrant Express, a project that consists of a series of major improvements to the I-820 and SH 121/183 (Airport Freeway) highway corridor in northeast Tarrant County. The US$2 billion project is due to be completed in 2015. This project is intended to help reduce traffic congestion, improve safety and increase capacity in one of the country's fastest-growing regions. In addition to the design, right of way and utilities, the project will rebuild and expand 13 miles along I-820 and SH 121/183 from I-35W to the SH 121 split. This project will rebuild the existing four to six main lanes, add four toll-managed lanes, plus frontage roads and auxiliary lanes to double existing capacity. The project also includes two additional non-tolled main lanes which will also be added no later than 2030 at no additional cost. This PPP is using a combination of private funds with public funds to complete the 21km corridor in five years.
