Strasbourg's tolled highway project moves ahead

Plans are moving forward in France for the beltway project around the city of Strasbourg. This tolled highway project is now expected to cost up to €756 million, compared with the original estimate of €400 million quoted during the call to tender in 2009. This tolled highway project is now expected to cost up to €756 million, compared with the original estimate of €400 million quoted during the call to tender in 2009. 5177 Vinci won the concession for the link. The 24km highway is intended to features two lanes in either direction and stretch from Vandenheim to Innenheim. The state and local communities will provide €33 million in financing for the project, with 80% taken on by the state. The regional and departmental councils will each contribute €3.25 million. Using the link is expected to cost €3.50 for cars and €13.50 on average for trucks. An environmental tax on trucks, planned for 2013, is expected to cost around €18 for a Mulhouse-Lautergourg journey.
