A key new road project is being planned in Indonesia.

A key new road project is being planned in Indonesia. The project is for a 39km toll road linking Pemalang with Batang and construction work is expected to commence in mid 2012. The finance structure for the Pemalang-Batang toll road project is still being established however. In addition to this project Indonesia;s Toll Road Authority is planning the 25km Cimanngis-Cibitung toll road and 57.5km Pejagan-Pemalang toll roads at present.

The country’s road expansion programme has a target of 1,852km of new toll roads to be complete by 2019 when the current administration ends its term in office. However only 870km of the planned toll roads have so far been completed. The new toll roads are expected to help develop the country’s economy and also to cut transport costs.     Indonesia’s road network is growing at a healthy pace, though further expansion is required to meet demand. At the end of 2013, the total length of Indonesia’s national road network was 38,750km. This marks a significant increase from the total of 34,628km recorded in 2004. Meanwhile the total length of the country’s road network has increased to from 373,523km in 2004, to 508,968km in 2013.
