New highway link for Egypt's capital

Five consortia have been selected for the pre-qualification phase of Egypt's US$1 billion Rod el-Farag highway tender by the Housing, Utilities and Urban Development Ministry (MHUUD).

Five consortia have been selected for the pre-qualification phase of Egypt's US$1 billion Rod el-Farag highway tender by the 3315 Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Development (MHUUD). The concession will be for a 20-25 year period and the new highway is intended to relieve the severe congestion at peak periods on Cairo's 26 July road. T

he 35km link will also provide a link to the Shoubra district, and a connection between Cairo-Alexandria desert highway, which is currently being widened, and Cairo ring road. The Rod el-Farag highway will feature four lanes in each direction and two major bridges.
