3516 Navteq has announced that its real-time traffic service has expanded coverage in the United Arab Emirate cities of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ummm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, as well as in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - Riyadh, Jeddah, Mecca, Medinah, ad-Dammam.

“There has been dramatic growth of GPS probe data Navteq is able to collect from millions of handsets and connected in-car and PND devices. This has allowed us to accelerate our traffic expansion, doubling our coverage in the UAE to almost 7,500 kilometres and adding coverage (around 14,700 kilometres) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” commented Ghassan Freij, general manager MENA Navteq.  “This is a major milestone in a region where traffic information is particularly valued.”

Navteq Traffic Pro delivers up-to-the-minute information fast and frequently, accurately reflecting real-world conditions on motorways, main and secondary roads. Research shows that drivers in the region want exactly this type of information - in a Navteq regional survey carried out last year, 96% of people using wireless navigation expressed a desire for a real-time traffic service.
