Elliot Shaw, National Highways’ chief strategy officer, will present on Strategic Roads, RIS2 and Beyond at Traffex in May

Elliot Shaw, National Highways’ chief strategy officer, will present the opening day keynote address at this year’s Traffex at the CBS Arena in Coventry, UK.

National Highways is responsible for England's motorways and major A-roads and Shaw will focus on priorities, including the Road Investment Strategy 2 (RIS2), which sets out plans for the development and improvement of the strategic road network to ensure safety, reliability and efficiency.

Shaw has a Masters degree in public administration from Harvard University in the US and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation in the UK. He joined National Highways in 2016 and was appointed to the board in January this year. His remit includes strategic development of the network and relationships with key statutory and regulatory bodies.

More than 100 exhibiters will be showcasing the latest road maintenance, traffic management, safety, monitoring, electric vehicle infrastructure and intelligent transport systems. Among them, will be SRL Traffic Systems, Vaisala, Yunex and SWARCO, whose Mike Guerin, head of business development for SWARCO UK and Ireland, will be a presenter. Guerin will cover feedback from local authorities in the UK on their real-world challenges in embracing the connected transportation and highways future.

This year’s Traffex will have two new theatres – Management and Mobility, and Safety and Sustainability – with presentations, panel discussions and workshops focusing on topics such as artificial intelligence, traffic enforcement, data and digital twinning.
