Mostostal Warszawa has been selected to build a segment of the S19 expressway between the Domaradz and Krosno junctions in Poland.

The contract is worth around €211 million and completion is expected in three years.

When finished, the 570km-long S19 Expressway will run from Poland’s north-eastern border with Belarus in Kuźnica through Białystok, Lublin and Rzeszów to the south-eastern border with Slovakia at Barwinek, where it will connect with the future R4 Expressway in Slovakia. The road is part of the Via Carpatia route.

As of May 2022 almost the entire expressway between Lublin and Rzeszów – under 190km – had been completed.

In October last year, Strabag won a bid for a 12km stretch of the S19 expressway in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, a deal worth around €67.5 million.

Meanwhile, last April, construction started on the S19 section between Rzeszów Południe and Babica road section, through a consortium of Mostostal Warszawa and Acciona. The work involves the construction of a 2.25km tunnel, six flyovers, two road viaducts and a collision-free passage over a railway line. The tunnel itself will be connected by 15 transverse passages and an additional emergency passage.

Three passages over the S19 for animals will also be built.

As part of the contract, the first Tunnel Management Centre in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship will be built. The investment also includes the construction of two passenger service points and two landing pads for helicopters of the Polish Medical Air Rescue.
