Mexico City's congestion beating highway

A contract worth US$491 million has been awarded for a new tolled highway section in Mexico City. The project will be carried out by Spanish firm OHL and local company Copri in a 50/50 joint venture agreement.

A contract worth US$491 million has been awarded for a new tolled highway section in Mexico City. The project will be carried out by Spanish firm 980 OHL and local company Copri in a 50/50 joint venture agreement. The contract is for a 33 year term and the new 5km link will help reduce congestion to the south-west of the city towards the cities of Cuernavaca and Acapulco. The work is expected to take until 2012 to complete and the joint venture company is called Controladora Via Rapida Poetas.

    The Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT) in Mexico has announced that roads and bridges in Guerrero affected by hurricanes during September 2013 will be repaired by mid-May 2014.     Spanish construction firm OHL has secured its first highway works contract in the US state of Texas. The US$142 million contract will see the company renew a 3.2km section of the US-290, which runs through the Lone Star state. Building new bridges, highway resurfacing and drainage improvements are key features of the contract. The work is part of the widening programme for the US-290. The state of Texas has plans to carry out infrastructure projects worth US$5 billion by the end of 2014.
