A key highway upgrade will improve links between Chinese capital Beijing and Tibet.

A key highway upgrade will improve links between Chinese capital Beijing and Tibet. A 217km stretch of the Beijing-Hohhot expressway will be upgraded and improved in a bid to reduce traffic congestion. The Beijing-Hohhot expressway features three lanes running in either direction and forms is part of the Beijing-Xinjiang Expressway.

The 5.7km highway stretch will feature two lanes in either direction and will be constructed in Malaysia’s Penang State. It will provide a link between the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway and Air Itam, with 70% of the route being elevated. The new link will feature three major interchanges and should take three years to construct.

  • China’s Hebei province developing transport infrastructure

    China’s Hebei Province is planning a series of transport infrastructure improvements during 2019. Highway construction will be amongst the works being prioritised under the plan, which has a budget of over US$8 billion. In all, 1,172km of highway will be built in the province under the programme of works. During 2019, work will commence on six new highway stretches with a total length of 332km. A 217km stretch of highway under construction already will be opened to traffic in 2019, while work is continuing
