IRD further strengthens business in Indiana

3508 International Road Dynamics (IRD) has been awarded an additional Quantity Purchase Agreement valued at approximately US$9.9 million from the 2855 Indiana Department of Transportation.

Under this agreement, IRD will be issued task orders to provide Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) and Virtual Weigh-in-Motion System (VWS) systems including site and sensor installation, maintenance, and repair.

The systems and services supplied under this contract will provide high accuracy traffic and weight data for planning, roadway design and weight compliance purposes.

The contract is a task-order based agreement and there is no limit to the number of Quantity Purchase Awards (QPAs) to be released. The contract is a long-term commitment between IRD and Indiana that started on July 1 and runs to April 30, 2019. This award complements a previous QPA issued to IRD in June valued at US$3.8 million for IRD equipment, software and services.

Each system will include a WIM sensor array specified by INDOT as appropriate for the type of traffic data to be collected at that location. VWS systems will also provide image capture and support remote web access capability to provide more powerful realtime tools that can be utilised for commercial vehicle weight screening.

Under this contract there is also an opportunity for IRD to work closely with INDOT to provide system enhancements and upgrades through the life of the contract.

In March, IRD – based in the western Canadian city of Saskatoon – won a deal with the US state of Georgia for the supply and installation of 19 mainline WIM systems worth newly $8 million.

The deal includes mainline WIM scales on the interstate, at the roadside and in scale houses as well as license plate reading, USDOT number reading, side view cameras and overheight detection systems at 19 weigh station locations.

IRD’s systems will complement the automated ramp weigh station facilities previously provided by IRD and operated by the Georgia Department of Transport.

Information from the new systems will be sent to the 3328 Georgia Department of Transportation Traffic Management Centre, Georgia Department of Public Safety/ Motor Carrier Compliance and other state organisations.

Construction will start this year at truck weigh stations in Carroll County (I-20 westbound), Troup County (I-85 northbound and southbound), Douglas County (I-20 eastbound) and Catoosa County (I-75 northbound and southbound). Construction of the remaining weigh station sites is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.

IRD will also provide maintenance for five years.
