German HGV toll to be extended to federal roads

According to information obtained by Handelsblatt, a German daily newspaper, the German Federal Government and the Toll Collect consortium of Daimler, Deutsche Telekom and Cofiroute have largely agreed on a contract to extend the HGV motorway toll to about 1,000 km of four-lane federal roads with effect from 1 August 2012.

According to information obtained by Handelsblatt, a German daily newspaper, the German Federal Government and the Toll Collect consortium of 3992 Daimler, 7017 Deutsche Telekom and 6031 Cofiroute have largely agreed on a contract to extend the HGV motorway toll to about 1,000 km of four-lane federal roads with effect from 1 August 2012. Negotiations are expected to be completed shortly. Reportedly, in contrast to 12,600 km of German motorways, electronic toll gantries won’t be used for tolling on federal roads.
